About Valerie (Val) Kokott-Rebhahn, MA, LPC


Valerie (Val) Kokott-Rebhahn, MA, LPC, is a psychotherapist at Stein Counseling and Consulting Services Ltd.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Viterbo University, La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1996 with a psychology major and women’s studies minor.  She received a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2002.  She received another master’s degree from Fielding Graduate University in 2013 with an emphasis in clinical psychology.

Val has been working in the psychology field for over 20 years.  She spent many years working as an in-home therapist, primarily working with families but also with individuals and specifically children and adolescents.  She taught at Viterbo University for 12 years in the psychology department; some of the courses she taught were: Developmental Psychology, Interviewing and the Helping Relationship, General Psychology, Research Methods I and II, Qualitative Research, several chemical dependency courses, and service learning courses.

Val specializes in working with children and adolescents and their families.  She has worked with many individuals on trauma, anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, adjustment disorder, and ADHD.   In therapy sessions, Val utilizes the following approaches regularly: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), client-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy.  With trauma clients, she utilizes Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) most often.
