About Kendel Berning, MA, LPC-CIT

Kendel Berning is an outpatient therapist and in-home counselor at  Stein Counseling and Consulting Services, Ltd. In addition, she provides school based mental health services for the Bangor school district. Kendel is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Training and holds a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Kendel works with children, adolescents, adults and couples. 

Before her role as a counselor, Kendel worked with Stein Counseling and Consulting Services, Ltd. as an office assistant as well as a crisis peer support worker. 

Prior to joining Stein Counseling and Consulting Services, Ltd. in September 2021, Kendel worked as an outpatient counselor at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio. Kendel provided individual counseling, group counseling, crisis interventions and provided services in the local juvenile justice detention center.  

Kendel has experience with anxiety, depression, abuse, anger, adjustment, stress management, grief, trauma, LGBTQ+, and women’s/gender related challenges. Kendel has extensive knowledge in the areas of criminal justice, and working with those in crisis. Kendel is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy trained and uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques in sessions to promote growth and lasting change amongst her clients. 

Kendel provides services to children as young as six (6) years, teenagers, and adults. Kendel  is a LGBTQ+ advocate and identifies her office as a “safe place” for all genders and orientations.

Kendel’s background working with various ages and mental health concerns provides the perfect foundation for her role as an outpatient therapist and in-home counselor at Stein Counseling and Consulting Services, Ltd.
