Outpatient Therapist Dual Licensed or CIT/SAC-IT – Black River Falls

Job Purpose: Provide counseling services to both voluntary and involuntary clients. Work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. May work with individuals, couples and/or families in the areas of: parenting; marital problems; mood management; trauma; stress management; problems with self-esteem; issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health; at-risk behaviors; as well as developmental/cognitive issues. Serve as provider to the Jackson County Adult Treatment Court and outpatient mental health and substance abuse.


  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment as stated in Wisconsin state statutes
  • Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships. 
  • Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests. 
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge. 
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
  • Follow Stein Policy regarding billing
  • Follow Stein Policy regarding casenotes and data entry (outcomes, etc) 
  • Complete timesheet in timely manner
  • Complete billing sheets in timely manner
  • Maintain expected billable percentage to non-billable time
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems. 
  • Refer clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary. 
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients’ status. 
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting client or clients.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions and clients’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives. 
  • Meet with families, social workers, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process. 
  • Learn about new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies. 
  • Working knowledge of  information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy. 
  • Maintain awareness of behavioral, crisis-management techniques, and personal safety as well as physical skills necessary relative to frequent travel/driving. 
  • Understand and follow policies and procedures of the Counseling/Psychotherapy Department, and Stein Counseling & Consulting Services, Ltd., as outlined in the department and agency policy manuals as well as applicable state statutes and administrative code chapters specific to the profession.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled individual and group supervision, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Maintain continuing education credits in accordance to state/licensure guidelines and Stein Counseling & Consulting Services policy.
  • Develop personal and professional goals annually.
  • Maintain acceptable ratings (75% or better) in all areas on performance reviews (job performance, supervisor ratings, client satisfaction, collateral ratings, QAUR, etc).
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, consistent with this position description, as requested by the Manager or President of Stein Counseling & Consulting Services, Ltd.

Work Environment

This position requires: dealing with resistant and reluctant clientele and an ability to manage conflict; the ability to work without close supervision; the ability to meet strict deadlines, as outlined by state and agency expectations; and the ability to work with external customers and/or the public. Must be willing to work closely with court system, legal field, jail, and other related county systems in coordination of the Jackson County Adult Treatment Court.

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Community Counseling, Marriage & Family, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. Must be eligible for Licensure as a SAC, CSAC and may also hold dual licensure that candidate can be eligible for  LPC, LMFT, LCSW.. Ideal candidate will possess 3000 hours of documented mental health experience working with individuals, couples, families and/or At-Risk Youth. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work within the concept of a team. Requires valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with adequate auto liability insurance and a good driving record.


Those working towards licensure will receive regular supervision by an appropriately licensed provider; those already licensed, will participate in regular collaboration with other licensed professionals. 


This position requires a flexible schedule—must be willing to work 1 – 2 evenings to accommodate clients.
